二、历史沿革
Sweden has had, in the past, a turbulent history with Denmark. With the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658, Denmark lost the southern counties of Skåne, Blekinge and Halland to Sweden. Lund University was founded in 1666 as a step in the process of making Skåne Swedish and to demonstrate the re-establishment of Swedish control. There had previously been a studium generale (the equivalent of a university college) for priests in Lund, founded in 1438 and operational in the 16th century.The new university was given the name Regia Academia Carolina. At the beginning there were only four faculties – theology, law, medicine and philosophy.Originally, the University did not have any premises of its own for teaching. At the end of the 17th century Karl XI donated Kungshuset in the Lundagård park to the University, which thus acquired its first main building.The real rise of the University came during the 18th century. New chairs were established and the number of students increased.
In 1852 the University was given new statutes that replaced the outdated regulations in force, and the state took over responsibility for finances. In the 1880s the first few female students began studying in Lund.
In the late 19th century, the Faculty of Philosophy was divided into a Faculty of Humanities and a Faculty of Science. In 1964 the social sciences were broken off from the humanities. In 1969 the Lund Institute of Technology (LTH) became the Faculty of Engineering. Later additions have included the School of Social Work and the Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts. At the end of the 20th century the University had developed into its current structure, with eight core faculties and a range of surrounding institutes.
In 1900 there were only 1 000 students in Lund, a small elite who were educated for higher public office as priests, teachers, doctors and lawyers. Lund University grew strongly throughout the 20th century and is today Sweden’s largest institution of higher education and research.The campus reflects the University's history, with magnificent buildings separated by cobbled streets and green spaces, but also its vision for the future with, for example, one of Sweden's largest science parks located close to the campus and the MAX IV facility and the planned ESS European spallation source.Ad utrumque, ‘prepared for both’, is Lund University’s motto, referring to the book and the sword in the University’s seal from the 17th century. Today the expression can be applied to a number of the dual values for which the University stands, such as tradition and innovation or breadth and depth.

Over recent years Lund University has achieved major success in obtaining large research grants. Annually, almost SEK 5 billion goes to research across eight faculties. Lund University has also distinguished itself in recent years in the allocations of Linnaeus environments and the Swedish Government’s investment in strategic research areas. These successes are largely a result of the interdisciplinary research carried out and the diversity that our comprehensive university has to offer.

A blood test could make Parkinson's diagnosis easier
With a simple blood test, scientists hope to make an earlier distinction between Parkinson's and related diseases, so-called atypical parkinsonism. Today, such a diagnosis requires samples of spinal fluid, a more painful, invasive and expensive method. Researchers at Lund University have developed a blood test that could offer an earlier and more accurate diagnosis. This would help make sure that people suffering from these diseases are receiving the right kind of treatment sooner.The blood test, developed by Oskar Hansson and his colleagues, detects a miniscule protein called neurofilament light chain. This protein can be found in nerve cells, and when these cells die, traces can be detected in both spinal fluid and blood."We have found that the specific protein that reveal differences between the diseases in spinal fluid can tell you the same story looking at a blood test. You just have to look in the right place. We believe that the lower concentrations of this protein in the blood of people with Parkinson's disease is due to less damage to the nerve fibers compared to those with atypical parkinsonism.", says Oskar Hansson, neuroscientist at Lund University and lead author of the study published in the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.It is now hoped that the results will lead to a standardized blood test that can help non-specialists give a more accurate diagnosis."Atypical Parkinsonism is rare, but generally develop these diseases much faster and are more likely to be the cause of death than Parkinson's disease, so it is important for patients and their families get the best possible care and to plan for their future needs," says Oskar Hansson.

Our cancer research areas：The most common forms of cancer in Sweden are Breast cancer and Prostate cancer.Many of our researchers are focusing on these forms of cancer.nteresting cancer research is also underway in melanoma (skin cancer),colon cancer (intestinal and rectal cancer),lymphoma,neuroblastoma,leukemia,kidney cancer,lung cancer and pancreatic cancer.Many questions remain to be answered.In order to improve diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and care, researchers are examining in detail issues such as:How cancer cells communicate and what mechanisms control cell growth.The inflammatory process during tumour development.The micro-environment of tumours to better understand molecules and to identify treatment opportunities.The reasons underlying the occurrence of cancer. For example, researchers map genetic factors and study various genetic mutations in tumour development. This knowledge can also be used to characterise different types of cancer.Identification and analysis of biomarkers, i.e. disease-specific indicators, with the aim of using them as diagnostic or therapeutic tools.Treatment of cancer from various angles, such as side-effects, the resistance of tumours to treatment or the treatment of metastases.Several comprehensive collections of biological and clinical material, in which deep analyses have generated large amounts of data for various research issues, have resulted from research at Lund University, enabling many exciting discoveries.

Diabetes
Lund University is world-leading in several areas of diabetes research. The aim is to find new treatments, drugs and cures.Diabetes is a worldwide epidemic. It is believed that by 2030 the number of people with the disease will exceed 520 million. Besides the great personal suffering, the disease entails major costs to society. Diabetes is not just one but several diseases, of which the most well-known are type 1, type 2, LADA and MODY. There are major differences between the different types of diabetes.In type 1 diabetes, which comprises around 10 per cent of cases, the body’s own immune system attacks the cells that produce the hormone insulin. When the body no longer has any insulin-producing cells left, insulin must be injected several times a day.Type 2 diabetes comprises around 90 per cent of cases and entails a reduced ability to respond to insulin. The causes of type 2 diabetes are partially hereditary and partially a result of poor diet and lack of exercise. Nanotechnology
Few universities in the world can measure up to Lund when it comes to research on semiconductor nanowires. Nanotechnology is about taking advantage of these new properties by controlling material production right down to atomic level. Nanotechnology is a very broad field and encompasses physics, electronics, chemistry, biology and medicine.The nanowires that are manufactured in Lund are incredibly small semiconductor structures with many possible areas of application. The invisible semiconductor wires play a crucial role in future production of LEDs, batteries and solar cells.Using nanowire solar cells, more energy can be extracted from less material, and researchers at NanoLund have come a long way in fabricating nanowires that can be mass-produced cheaply and efficiently. Nanowires can also be used to make more efficient LEDs that save energy and produce better light than those currently available.HealthNanowire-based technology could provide a boost to biomedical research. By using nanowires as small electrodes, it is possible to improve treatment of Parkinson’s disease and epilepsy. They can also be used in basic cell research in order to obtain a better understanding of the mechanisms behind diabetes and cancer.Another area of application is medical diagnosis, where a sorting device made of nanowires on a chip can provide a quick and accurate diagnosis in the field and therefore improve survival. In addition, there are plans to use nanowires to purify drinking water using UV light in a process that could be powered by solar cells.Natural nanomaterials have existed from time immemorial and we are surrounded by them in our daily lives. Manufactured nanomaterials are found in many everyday products and their use is expected to increase. This has to happen in a way that is safe and sustainable. Knowledge about human and environmental exposure to nanomaterials requires more research, and Lund researchers are contributing their expertise to this field.
The researchers measure exposure levels in workplaces where the new materials are manufactured and processed, take part in EU projects to draw up shared standards for measuring nanomaterials, and act as a sounding board for public authorities on nano-safety issues. The aim is to generate new knowledge that can lead to safe utilisation of nanotechnology.

Housing types and locations：The University departments are spread throughout the city; accordingly, Lund University does not have a particular campus area. We provide services through LU Accommodation and other agencies. If you are renting a room from LU Accommodation, the most common form of student accommodation is a corridor room. Students also find housing in shared apartments, rooms, studio flats or corridor rooms in or around the cities of Lund, Malmö or Helsingborg.The accommodation costs vary depending on where you live and what type of housing you are renting. If you are renting a room from LU Accommodation the rent is currently set at between SEK 14 000 and SEK 23 000 for the full semester. This includes electricity, water, heating and use of kitchen and laundry facilities.
